Currently an 80% cost reduction or 82% with the extra 10% reduction at the lvl 6 perk choice is great and all but what if there was also a crafting quality assigned to certain items when made by someone in the appropriate profession.
Lets say im lvl 0 in smelting and make an iron pickaxe, it has (numbers are simply for ratios and are not what they are in game) 100 durability and a mining strength of 1. If im lvl 1 and have therefore specialized and decide to make an iron pickaxe not only do i get 50% cost and time reduction but i also gain a crafting quality to this new pickaxe. It is now made with 50% crafting quality and now has 200 durability and a mining strength of 1.5. At lvl 7 it goes up to something like 300 durability and a mining strength of 3. Of course these numbers need balancing but im just looking at the concept here. Someone else may have mentioned it before but with a quick search i didnt find anything (not that good at using github either).
This effect can be applied to tools. Vehicles can get faster and/or use less fuel and maybe carry more. Crafting stations and power generators may take less power to operate. To add onto tools, maybe move some of the calorie reduction to the tool and link it off of crafting quality and remove it from the respective specialty
Pros:
Gives more importance to becoming specialized and creating tools for other people not in that specialty
As you lvl, tools and maybe vehicles become more efficient and faster. Crafting stations and power generators takes less fuel
promotes collaboration between specialties
Endgame tools can be much better and old players can buy the better quality tools and sell low quality ones to new players
Cons:
i don't see any other than maybe having issues with stores buying/selling
