Leaving a message here as well, as I'd be interested in a high-performance mode as well, or any recommendations on how to achieve sub 1 second latency

I personally don't experience the 20 seconds delay... I'm using a Pioneer MRX-3 device and I transport the audio over PCM/L16 @ 48Khz. However, I experience a ~2 seconds delay due to how the MRX-3 works. Maybe it's worth trying switch the audio transport to PCM to reduce the audio processing before data is sent to the renderer.

The latency is introduced in the device that plays the stream, some devices have smaller buffer some have larger, nothing can be done about it. DLNA was never meant for live/real-time audio
