Running the modpack on lower-specced computers. #197

Bug Report

I cannot start the modpack due to low specs. After it loads, I get to the menu (laggy), I can create a world and try to load it.

Steps to Reproduce (for bugs)

  1. Load the modpack. It loads after a heckton of time.
  2. Try to create a world, or load the existing one. After a while, I see no activity on the CPU or memory usage (instead of thrashing I see a complete freeze where it doesn't even try to page fault).

Logs

Client Information

Any suggestions on which mods to disable so that, while the progression could get botched, the overall experience of the modpack itself is fine? i3-5005U, 4GB DDR3 1600MHz, SATA III SSD (where Twitch and MC are installed, and the Windows pagefile is stored)

If GPU is the limiting factor, I will try running it with the 920M instead of the integrated graphics.

Will try navigating the menus themselves too.

given that the author says this is not for low spec machines, its maybe not possible for you to play this pack. also you are trying to run a kitchen sink pack on a low-mid tier laptop instead of a low-mid tier desktop, which makes a world of difference. finally, this is not a bug.

Yeah as I said I would like to have however much experience I could get on this laptop.

I was able to run Sky Factory 3 decently (although a large RS system ended up causing significant server lag, whenever I tried to open the crafting grid I'd get about 5 minutes of skipped ticks).

So what mods can I remove without severely hampering the modpack experience? I mean I want to get through the early quests. What are the mods which have the most impact on performance?

Sunekaer commented 6 years ago

This not an quest mod pack, so remove that you want, but it could mess with recipes depending on what you remove.. more ram would help you alot

paulstelian97 commented 6 years ago

Yeah I just asked for tips on what I could remove without breaking the whole modpack and would help me performancewise.

I guess I would just go ahead and remove whatever I consider not important... Hope I don't find a coremod or something very useful. Which one gives the actual world layout (so it's still a form of Stoneblock?)

Here are the mods I removed since they are mostly for aesthetic purposes.

I also removed Natura but only because of personal preference (I just don't like this mod). I also removed Inventory sorter and added Inventory tweaks because I prefer that mod. I haven't had any problems running the pack with 4 gigs, but I've only got about 10 hours in. I'm fully aware I might run into problems later on, though.

Alright I have removed those mods (moved to a disabledmods folder), I'll now try to load the game. Also switched to NVidia.

134974 recipes in JEI... Seems to be a lot, what mod could be causing this? (Still loading)

All of them (some more than others). This is really big modpack. You need more RAM. Replacing one of your 2GB RAM modules with a 8GB one (for $50 USD) will give you enough to run almost any pack.

...I have a single soldered 4GB module on my Ideapad... Not sure if the second slot exists (software says it does)
