might be an ram issue? what if he tries again after? Timed out is pretty hard to tell why happens, it can be the game, server, interconnection, router, it can be so many things causing it
Running the server and the game on the same machine will put extra stress on the processor, some computers may not have the grunt to run both at once, therefore the game times out before you can connect as your computer tries to load your world, and the server-side world at the same time.
check ip and port is still running on your firewall, router and look it for port forwarding. than connected it with localhost. that's it )
Please repeat @Kratzwurst Did you mean to say, check the server port is unblocked in his firewall? Port forwarding is not necessary when connecting locally, by the looks of things he and his friend can connect so port forwarding sounds like it is not an issue, it's further down the line.
Yeah, i mean not all Routers and Firewalls enabled the Ports automaticly.
If his friend can connect, and the server shows him loading mods in, connecting and then disconnecting, the firewall is not the problem, nor is the port forwarding. He would not even be able to see the server if port forwarding or the firewall were mis-configured.
yes that what i saying there must be connecting when it's a local server (not rent or buy server) with localhost as ip or the router ip 192.168.x.x not with IPV4 or V6 :)
There is a known issue (42) with JourneyMap. There was a recent change to Forge where it now throws Exceptions when it detects problems with network channels. The exception is non-fatal but it can cause the connection to be dropped.
In the case of JourneyMap, the class defining the message type sent when a player connects or changes dimension isn't registered on dedicated servers when it should have been. This bug isn't going to be fixed in JourneyMap any time soon, but there is an additional mod to fix it:

This mod simply registers the class on the server and prevents the exception being thrown.
There are other mods that also cause an exception to be thrown at this point, but so far JourneyMap is the only one I've seen where it happens every time. Adding this fix to your server should improve connectivity.
