Secrets stopped recognizing my password #26

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. I enter my password, but Secrets says it is invalid

This is a huge problem. I've been using Secrets since version 1. I was at
version 1.2.2 (I believe). Today, when I entered my master password,
Secrets declared it invalid. Now I cannot access any of my data.
EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING.

I know that I am remembering the master password correctly. It is the only
one I have ever used for these kinds of programs, going back 4 years (on a
succession of Treos, before I got the G1).

I upgraded to the latest version (1.4.1) but it still declares the password
I enter to be invalid.

Hi jcstorr,

Do you remember what changed on your phone since the last time you accessed
your secrets?
Are you running Android 1.1 or 1.5?

Did you backup your secrets to the sdcard?

There has been no data format changes since the app was released.

I am in the same situation with version 1.4.1

I use Android 1.5. I did backup to sdcard but some time ago so it is out of
date.

The problem seemed to start when I was using the HTC Magic keyboard and the
characters were not displaying. I clicked back key to get out of the program.
Since
then my password has not been recognized.

Can I reinstall or something to get it working?

Hi theinvestmentcoach,

When the keyboard issue occurred, were you trying to type your master password,
or were
you already logged in to secrets? Any information you can give would be
helpful, the
more specific the steps to reproduce the problem the better.

If you reinstall, you will loose your secrets. However, if you use the same
master
password, you will be able to restore from the backup, although it will
somewhat out of
date as you mention.

I was trying to type in the master password.

Sometimes the characters would not show as I was punching the code into the
soft
keyboard and sometimes and other times the characters would show up really
slowly.
Weird.

Anyway for now I will use a different solution but I hope you sort it out for
others. Thanks

Steps to reproduce:
- start secrets
- tap on the entry field to bring up the soft keyboard
- on the soft keyboard, type your password and press enter *twice*

The password is cleared. That is, leaving the password field blank and simply
pressing
enter will get you in to your secrets.

Please use these steps to "fix" the problem until this bug is fixed:

- login to secrets with the blank password
- export your secrets to the sdcard
- reset your password to the original value. This will delete all your secrets
- import from the sdcard. Delete the csv file after import

This procedure will cause the access history to be lost. To avoid this
problem
completely, try not to press the enter key more than once before you see your
list of
secrets

Secrets ignore all but the first enter press in the login page.
