Hi all! I had already installed the programme a week or so ago, but I've realised that every time I try and reopen it after exiting, it has - I think - effectively uninstalled and has to reinstall. Not completely, but whenever I click the icon, it opens on this tab which I can't even name (attached image), which usually comes right after you have finished installing a programme. Then it has to verify all over again, which takes a quite fair while. This all repeatedly. I'm just wondering if this is normal (I'm sure it is not) or if anyone has encountered this, as I certainly wouldn't want to risk losing work if it means it is uninstalling. I'm on a Mac.
Hi there! When you double-click the install icon and see the image you attached, the next step is to drag the QGIS-LTR icon into the Applications folder. That should complete the install process. You can then delete the install file. Then to actually launch the application, you can do so from the icon in the Applications folder. Does that work?
Hi @rmseifried, thank you for getting to me. I should have mentioned I had done that and the problem continued despite it. So I completely uninstalled/reinstalled it and after moving the icon to the Applications folder again, it now seems to work. I cannot rationalise why that is, but hopefully that sticks! Many thanks.
@FabioDFernandes so glad it's working now! Hooray!

Hello sir, I need a topic for college project.
I think you may be asking this question in the wrong place. You should speak to your professors.
I am using qgis how to create project using qgis
I was wondering if anyone had found any resources to get your hands on more data, similar to the files we were given? I have been digging around a bit, as I wanted to experiment with a different area on the map, but got no further than https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=9/39.0565/26.5842 which didn't seem to be able to actually provide the files needed (or maybe I am not doing it right and it actually does provide them?).
Hi @ChantalvanEgdom - my favorite way to download OpenStreetMap data is Geofabrik. You can navigate down through sub-regions to access the OSM data for a particular country. For example, this is the page for Greece. If you'd like to open the data in QGIS, look for the .SHP extension (like "greece-latest-free.shp.zip").
There are lots of other places online to look for geospatial data, too! You could start with Geolode and use the filters on the left side to filter by place or topic.
Hi @rmseifried - Thank you so much, that's incredibly helpful!
Thank you @rmseifried and @ChantalvanEgdom - I had also been wondering this!
Thanks, @rmseifried!
I've also used very high granularity country/region/district shapefiles from GADM (https://gadm.org/download_country_v3.html) - if someone's interested I can try to dig out some code we used in the CALCS project to filter ancient places within the footprint of a modern country, for example.
Any plugin or tools for calculating area of the shapefile
If you have any problems with installation, plugins, or other features of QGis or the exercise for session 6, please feel free to ask for help here, and we or your colleagues may be able to give you some pointers.
