Any recommended ATAs? #28

First, some prologue (opening lines):
I've finally found a house for myself, with great phone wiring setup
already.

I have a cable internet provider already coming there (8MB internet is
really nice and fast).

I'm bringing my home router, already setup for the ATA (might need to
change the forwarded-to IP, though).
I'm also bringing several phones I've purchased for this to be used with.

And now, the question:
What I want to know is, is there any where I can purchase an ATA that I can
use with SIPSorcery?

What are the good brands, and where can I find them?

I need to be absolutely sure I would be getting an unlocked brand that can
be used with SIPSorcery.

I forgot to put:

Money is not a limitation (as long as the ATA is reasonably priced).

I've had a couple (5) phone technicians (that I know personally and did not get
through their respective phone companies) check it already, and there are no
problems
with the house that I've bought's RJ11 (Telephone Wiring - USA type)
connections.

I've read some stories about people purchasing these ATAs from online auctions
such
as Ebay, and I want to avoid buying from there if possible.

the linksys pap2t is the most popular; you can get them on ebay, but most on
ebay are
chinese knockoffs if you want to be sure; use newegg, link below. i saw on the
sipsorcery forum somewhere that this ata accounted for like 49 per cent of all
ata's
on their system. i use an old sunrocket unlocked ata, which is not that great in
terms of call quality, but works. link to cisco/linksys unit below. probably
your
safest choice

Thanks for posting your reply, Glen, this is a perfect example of what I had
hoped to
see come of our community.

XANAVirus, I, too, use the Linksys PAP2T-NA 2-line ATA. I have two separate
Google
Voice numbers that have been independently converted into SIP lines at SIP
Sorcery
using the process outlined here, but I haven't replaced the phone company's
service
feed with the ATA's powered ports yet -- the whole thing is just too unreliable
to
replace the home service.

Congrats on the purchase, btw. I guess you can ignore my comments in your other
post,
LOL.

I haven't yet purchased the ATA (if that is what you are referring to).

I, however, don't have working phone service (from an actual phone company). To
run
cable from there out to my house would cost a fortune, and with all the money
problems
everyone is having recently, there is just no way, so I thought this will work
better.

I have 8MB internet from Suddenlink, and I have everything I need (except for
the ATA)/

What is the best way to be able to check your Google Voicemail over the phone
(since
you can't dial it normally through the Softphone/ATA, because that number is
where your
calls go through)?

My recommendation here is to sign up for a second Google Voice line and either

a) repeat the entire process to create a complete second SIP line and use that
to
call your primary number to check your voicemail, or

b) sign up for a second GV number and add some logic to the dialplan so that
this
second number is used to place the call *only* when the number being dialed is
your
primary GV number.
