With the latest version (1.9.6) the commander is still the achilles' heel.
The easiest way of defeating the AI is still to just go for its commander,
and it is not particularly hard to do that either.
Commander tries to defend its base much too aggressively in later stages,
when it faces tech 2 and tech 3, leading to death.
The AI should keep its commander safe after it reaches tech 2, I'd say,
keeping him in the base under shields and not venturing out unless a base
falls (evacuation).
