auto-follow child thread nestling #4

Looks like child threads are nestled in their parent directories Wouldn't child thread nestling eventually create directories much too long for windows to handle? I know some programs start having problems when directories exceed 255 characters.

Also child threads don't retain slugs when they are being created? Is there an option to maintain slugs/catagories even with auto-followed threads?

Child threads are nested in their parent's folder for clarity. If a folder would exceed 255 characters the watcher associated with it will stop with an error. Threads leading to such cases are hopefully rare and you can work around it by copying the URL of the stopped watcher and adding manually after first removing it.

Cross-links on 4chan doesn't contain slugs thus auto-followed child threads cannot include it.

Thanks for clarifying. Any chance of making an option to have the child thread created in the root download folder with the parent slug appended to the child thread?

SuperGouge commented 10 years ago

Of course it's possible but I don't see this as a priority. It would also make even more difficult some other features related to folders and cross-links that are planned. The idea between subfolders is to organize auto-followed threads in a logical structure. As for the parent thread slug being appended, just use categories for this purpose.

I'd like to see this too, with and without the slug.

Yeah this is probably the best route to take since the threads on 4chan are already numerically structured
