mupen will not start - give segfault errors in var/log/messages

Describe your system:
 - Operating System (be specific): Ubuntu Lucid Lynx 10.04
 - Machine type (32-bit or 64-bit): 32 Bit
 - Mupen64Plus version: 1.99.3
 - Plugins used: None

For visual artifacts, give:
- game name and CRC/MD5 hash (printed on console)
- description of the artifact (missing polygons, flashing, wrong colors,
etc)

Describe the problem:

Am trying to start Mupen64Plus via Launcher (an XBMC program). Every time I try 
to start it, it dumpd straight out again into XBMC with the following 
message(s) left in /var/log/messages

Sep 27 12:01:59 XBMCLive kernel: [ 2016.953430] mupen64plus[2842]: segfault at 
7c ip 00a4dc88 sp bf9167e0 error 4 in libSDL-1.2.so.0.11.3[a20000+64000]
Sep 27 12:03:18 XBMCLive kernel: [ 2095.480751] mupen64plus[2855]: segfault at 
7c ip 00416c88 sp bfcb5070 error 4 in libSDL-1.2.so.0.11.3[3e9000+64000]

seem to have solved this by giving permissions to everything that mupen uses.
