[Feature Request] Flexible local source #877

What feature should be added to Suwayomi?

Allow multiple folders and files to be "selected" and merge into one single library(local folder) using symbolic links without moving or copying them.

Would be something like the "file picker" on android, but you can pick more than one folder.

Thay way we use folder/file as is without copying them.

This is possible on linux if you run suwayomi as your user.

Why/Project's Benefit/Existing Problem

Having to move files when you're still seeding is not possible and copying them wastes a lot of space, specially when you have a lot of files.

Besides, most stuff comes pre-formated for tachiyomi so you can just use the folder as is.

Robonau commented 6 months ago

the local source is based on tachiyomi's/mihon's its not likely to change

you should be able to use folder linking to get the files in the correct format whilst not making copies

airisama019 commented 6 months ago

then whats is the goal of suwayomi? do you not plan on making any changes that benefit the current platform? we're not on android anymore

Robonau commented 6 months ago

it would also be a ton of added complexity and dev time for a marginally better experience for the 5 people that use local source

airisama019 commented 6 months ago

What? 5 people? I feel like everyone using this will self host

Robonau commented 6 months ago

yea, most people do self host suwayomi but most people still use it as you would tachiyomi downloading and reading using extensions

people generally use something like komga if they want a media library system

airisama019 commented 6 months ago

I though this would be komga competition If you're gonna do that why not write OS native UI? Just make it like tachiyomi

cause it can run on most of the modern desktop OS's mac, windows, linux so it needs to be usable on all those OS's as well as mobile for people that want there library in one place rather than two(just suwayomi rather than suwayomi+mihon/paperback)

a webui is just about the only thing that fits those wide requirements

and there are "native" UI's for all those if u count flutter as native because of sorayomi

@AriaMoradi why?
