I started developing with tests then moved away. I hope to get back to that soon. this relates to #21

Run the individual example files instead, they don't check for anything. But they run. They will be converted to tests as development proceeds

better tests are now starting to be written. A couple fail right now, but its good enough for this issue. The tests will begin to reflect the tests detailed in a separate doc.
