W10 22h2: Appcrash, no dialog at all #396

Describe the bug The program crashes immediately, only the traybar-icon is visible, but when hitting with the mouse, it disapers

To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. start alienfx-gui.exe (as admin or not)

Windowsversion: w10 22h2 Model: Alienware Area 51 R2 (2016) all old versions of original AWCC are uninstalled

Looks strange, but you are the second person reporting it. Ok, let's check some basics.

  1. What tray icon looks like (alien eye color)?
  2. Can you, please, run it and DENY admin elevation?
  3. Did you have some configuration before or it's just a first start?

Hi, thx for the quick answer.

to 3.: nope, nothing. I tried it first with the old AWCC installed, yesterday I kick all old things off and start your tool only. to 1.: AlienFX Monitor: runs (green Alien), Alienfan-Gui: no run, Fan-Icon (which diapears), Alienfx-Gui: no run, no icon (today) I'm not sure, the the last icon, I tried a lot of things. to 2.: the is no possibility to run it as "normal" user in properties.., DENY "this program make changes..." doesn't run, too. grafik

Ohh... If both fan-gui and fx-gui not run this means some issue in fan control init or processing.... Let me think how to diagnose it. Meanwhile, try to open \HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Alienfxgui and create DWORD key named FanControl with the value 0, then start fx-gui.

Update: Seems like i know the source of this issue. Can you please open Administrator CMD and run this command: alienfan-cli dump then share the result?

Thx 4 update, sorry 4 my late reply.

The DWORD with 0 works. (alienfan-cli dump: sorry, I've made alienfan-gui dump .... and found nothing.)

But I'll do the next time (i'm working on a clients PC, so I can't access it as much, as I want)

OK, alienfx-gui runs without alienfan, but now I've this (The Keyboard is a Alienw. AW768): Screenshot-alienFX Screenshot-alienFX2

I'm not sure: Do I have to name the keyboard keys, or is it fix from your software. Now I will start to go deeper into the manual.

So, i have the bad news for us - seems like area51 doesn't have the fan detection, but have AW block into BIOS. Seems like i have some bug which crash it at detection at this case. Let me make a test tool with the tracing for you to pinpoint and fix this.

About keyboard - press "Detect devices" - i should have map for it (but not sure). Use "Device" tab to assign light to keys and the grid, then use "colors" tab to assign it to zones and control it.
