Proposed Enhantment Mechanic #53

Open Royal-Jelly opened 7 years ago

Royal-Jelly commented 7 years ago

I think we need a whole new mechanic to dedicate time on :

Osmotic Encanting ~ i know the idea is from the old Thaumic tinkerer but belive me very different in many ways

The structure consists of totem blocks and pedestals (as well as infusion stabilizers)

To begin enchanting you place the item in the mouth of the bottom most totem, and click it with a wand

If the conditions are not met the totem blocks will rotate and grumble at you (failed basically)

Conditions for Enchantment :

Enchantments will require Different combinations of "Inscribed Runic Parchment" to be placed on the pedestals
Depending on the enchantment it will cost varring ammounts of XP

Conditions For Failure to Enchant :

structure instablity is too high (like the infusion alter it would check for symetry) (accepts infusion stabilizers)
runic patchment is removed or missing from pedestal for too long (30 seconds)

Extra information On :

"Inscribed Runic Parchment" ~
To craft you need paper a full phial (any aspect) and scribing tools (doesnt consume only reduces the durrability )

There will be as many Inscribed Runic Partchment as there are essentia/aspects

"Wooden Totems" ~
Totems have a mouthslot to insert items if a valid item is inserted it can increase speed at the cost of some stability (items are consumed)

"Iron Embosed wood Totem" +5% stability
Comes in all woodenplank flavors including mod added ones

"Thaumium Embosed Greatwood Totem" +10% stability

"Brass Embosed Silverwood Totem" +15% stability

    "Voidtouched Warpwood Totem" +25% stability

"Manasteel Embosed Livingwood Totem" +20% stability

"Terrasteel Embosed Dreamwood Totem" +30% stability

    "Dripping Bloodwood Totem" +10% stability

"Totem mouth materials"

        "Emerald" +15% speed -15% stability

        "Diamond" +5% speed -5% stability

"Mana Diamond" +10% speed -10% stability

"Blood Diamond" +20% speed -20% stability

Example Structure :

X = Totem Material ( Interchangable )
0 = Pedestal Material ( Interchangable )
% = Air/Null

Things like this will be great, but will wait until I have a functional base. One of the things that's prevented an official release is a lack of clear vision, or mod purpose. I hope fans go crazy with the feature-request label in this issues section, to help the mod be more unique. I'm always open to input!

Royal-Jelly commented 7 years ago

I always thought the mods purpose was clear "to bring back some missing thaumcraft mechanics that are missing in the latest release"

But now its kinda blurred you even when full soaryn/zycraft on me for a while there, much hiatus mate.

Re-Implementing or cloning mechanics from previous versions of thaumcraft should not be a goal. However inspiration taken from them to create new different mechanics is great.

I will be expanding on the idea some more and polishing it up to boot, might have some time to write up the other idea i had a while back :L

T145 commented 7 years ago

The Zycraft stuff was in the past, not now. Back then was when my vision was clouded. And the hiatus happened b/c of my life's circumstance, but coming back I have a new vision with where I want to take everything. You also kind of countered your own statement there, by saying that my vision was to update TC features, and that now that's a bad move. The initial vision of the mod was to improve mod compatibility for TC, patch some of its gaps, and throw in new ideas to grow both it and Magistics, which included updating old TC features. Now, I'm taking baseline TC2 concepts and developing Magistics independently, which means new mechanics that branch off from the baseline concepts.

If all of that is too confusing, then just compare Magistics and TC to TechReborn and IC2/GregTech. The relationship is similar, where TR started as an addon that expanded IC2 and has now become independent, with IC2 compatibility.

You can still leave this issue open; doing so will help me remember your ideas in the future. Btw, if you could grab those crucible textures, I'd appreciate it!
