This does not reference the new Apple/Google API yet. That has wider implications that are hard to capture in a small edit.

There is some overlap with #53. After it gets merged, the middle paragraph here could refer to that. The elaborations on the OS layer are complimentary.

Thanks for writing this up! I'd rather merge this now and combine the text in the two paragraphs in a later PR, so that this can be in the rendered README immediately.
