Subject: ELEC5552 TQ02020301 (Project 2 Team 2 Week 3 Technical Query 1) Availability of Power Supply
Technical Query: Can there be a guarantee about the types of power supply are available in the current or future equipment which connects with the project product?
Background: The equipment to which the project product is connecting may have a different power supply, such as PoE (Power over Ethernet), AC or DC power. Besides the various AC/DC power, even the standardised PoE also can have different versions with different currents and power. To select the appropriate power management IC for the final PCB design, the design team request to confirm the types of power supply are available in the equipment.
Supporting information:
PoE is an optional functionality of the ethernet socket provided by some but not all equipment. Different PoE versions can provide power that varies from 350mA/15W to 960mA/100W. Without knowing the specific pieces of equipment our device will be attached to, we cannot determine the most reliable course of action to power our device which has specific power requirements.
