Trivial question #34

Dear friends,

I am considering the possibility to port this code for a different telescope (REM, http://www.rem.inaf.it/).

Just to better understand, is this code supposed to run on a server managed by the telescope or is it for remote users, i.e. to be downloaded and installed independently of the telescope?

Bye, Stefano

Hi Stefano, Thanks for your question! We are keen to include support for additional telescopes in the TOM Toolkit. You can find more information on how to add an observatory module for the Toolkit here.

The Toolkit is designed to be installed and run by users of a telescope, rather than the telescope operators. The TOM's observatory module is responsible for composing and sending observation requests from the user's TOM to a receiving service run by the telescope's operators. The receiving service parses the request, so that the telescope can perform the observations, and returns the results.

The service run at the telescope to receive observation requests isn't part of the TOM Toolkit, but we have a complementary package called the Observatory Control System which provides these functions, or you can develop your own interface.

I hope this helps. Let us know if we can help further - we are happy to work with you to develop the interface for your telescope.
