Flowering data figure #42

Open wdlngtn opened 4 years ago

wdlngtn commented 4 years ago

@brymz

for the variety trial - could you order the varieties in columns according the their 'class' It would be nice to see a vertical column of all the early flowering, intermediate, cbd, and south Chinese. This would allow the reader to make and easy comparison between and within classes.

I would like the reader to see so identical the Canadian varieties were and importantly the difference between Puma-3 and Si-1.

This would also be a visual justification of the classes I assigned each group.

Do you think a red dot, or some signifier to point out where the 50% flowering time is?

image

wdlngtn commented 4 years ago

Also, is there any reason not to share this with Brian.Mengzi to keep them in the loop? @brymz

brymz commented 4 years ago

No reason not to share. I'll try to get to the figure revision by end of the day.

wdlngtn commented 4 years ago

Also, is there a new version of the table of estimated flowering time for each plot in the var trial and 8?

wdlngtn commented 4 years ago

Also, could the X axis be the same scale for each plot. It's hard to visually appreciate flowering time when the later, shorter experiments with fewer data points are more spreader out

I REALLY like the vertical line for flowering time - it looks right for all of them. Could you make it red to be more conspicuous. @brymz

Also, can you stack the classes in vertical columns? This would make the vertical line indicating 50% flowering to be more comparable between varieties of the same class.

wdlngtn commented 4 years ago

Also, I notice an error on Han NW, I will pull the data and fix that now

wdlngtn commented 4 years ago

I fixed the issue. Data on Github is current

stack the classes in vertical columns

Best I can do with unbalanced Class factor. What's up with Class == Poland?

Hmm, Perhaps Class Poland and Canada should be combined. both are around latitude 50 and look the same.

Charts looks great!I like the gray.

brymz commented 4 years ago

So perhaps, instead of Class, group by Latitude? Latitude needs to be better defined as a categorical variable or ranges for bins. Also, Class == Uncertain is listed as Latitude == . which needs to be revised in PlotVarietFile.csv.

brymz commented 4 years ago

can I have a list of each flowering time?

Be more specific. How is what you are asking for different from the table I pasted in an earlier comment?

wdlngtn commented 4 years ago

Latitude 50, 45, (40? fir CBD), 35, and 25 would work for the data and the writing.

I'd like the date/days after planting that each variety flowers. This will be in the text of the results and I think on the table of final heights.
