I'm typically a fan of the more permissive style licenses (e.g. BSD, MIT), but that's a purely personal thing. We could go with Apache, but there's not really any patent issues that we're trying to pass along. Whenever I'm writing code that I plan on opening up I could generally care less how people use it or if they want to use some random pieces for another project. It also find that I can find a lot of other software I can incorporate going down this route.
However, for this I could certainly see us using a copyleft license (e.g. GPL2) if we think that this is and should always be a community tool. It just may restrict us a bit more going forward in terms of what we can use. GPL3... well... I'll keep that opinion to myself.
Just my $0.02.
Using Apache
if/when we open source stumps, we should choose a license
