Requests as 1.5 user #454

I hate to make this an 'issue' so please if you'd like copy this elsewhere and delete it, but, as a 1.5 user I am running into a number of really jarring differences in 1.6.5 that I'd love to see addressed. None of them should be workflow-reducing for 1.6-comfortable users in any way.

3d right click:

I also miss the 'W' translate mode which made it easy to precisely move vertices.

Patches and vertex selection:

A very common editing procedure on patches is to select the entire middle row (between top and bottom) and move it to one of the ends to make it into a straight patch, so that moving the top or bottom doesn't create bends. This is easy in 1.5, very difficult in 1.6. In 1.5 I'd rect select the row and move it to the bottom using Translate to avoid it going left/right by accident. In 1.6 I am unable to select the entire row in one click.

I'm afraid 1.5 was an entirely different codebase (by a different coder originally afaik) from 1.6 and many code changes can't simply be copy/pasted into the 1.4->1.6 tree. Many would be nice of course, but it will take extensive rewrites.

This is great feedback, thanks. We get a good data point of the most important features that would be worth bringing over.

Seems very jerky compared to 1.5's smoothness.

1.5 is way smoother even with the fact, that it's rendering scene TWICE after every mouse move fraction during transformations; And it is silky smooth after fixing that.

'W' translate mode which made it easy to precisely move vertices.

There is alternative 'disable scaling(wtf?) along Nth axis' solution in 1.4; Is slightly bugged (prolly on purpose) in 3D.

Seems impossible to select horizontal rows, only vertical ones?

Click twice ctrl+shift+m1 - same stuff, adding to current selection

'complete tall' button makes it completely impossible to rect select vertices

m1 drag - brand new selection ctrl+m1 - xor, like in 1.5 curves only tho +you can't edit vertices of brushes & curves simultaneously That set of features in curve vertex edit mode is fine and almost full, though it feels like garbage, since is not uniform with other modes.

One forgotten important feature is 'Working Undo' tm; Atm it either undoes, or not, or throws out some random bug. Probably no undo is more healthy, than such sort of troll stuff.
