Adjustments to activity 3.2 #711

Which course contains the bug?
PSYC 339 OL SU 2023

Describe the error and/or your suggestion

  1. Change the title of the Activity from: Activity 3.2: Read | On Death and Dying - p. 37-53, 76-86, 105-117, 132 to Activity 3.2: Optional Read | On Death and Dying - p. 37-53, 76-86, 105-117, 132 On Death And Dying..pdf

  2. Include the direct link in the description of the activity. Attached is the copy of the PDF.

    1. Remove the option for students to fill in the answer to the questions underneath the question tab. Turn it into a Questions to Consider section, with the questions simply in a list like this:

Questions to Consider:

  1. Why is partial denial considered healthy?
  2. When should a dialogue about death take place?
  3. Why is anger a hard stage to deal with?
  4. Why does it happen?
  5. What does bargaining attempt to do?
  6. What might the promises or bargaining be associated with?
  7. What are the two different types of depression outlined?
  8. Why is it not helpful to reassure or tell the sad, dying person to be happy or not be sad?
  9. What feelings are present at the acceptance stage?
  10. Who needs the most help during this stage?

Hi @emilyverse ! Thanks for all these revisions! Before we make these changes, I'm going to check with the library to find or make a clean pdf copy of the Kübler-Ross resources, as it's very difficult to read and would be inaccessible for screen readers.

Could I also suggest that we keep the activity titles without specific pages numbers, but rather pointing to the activity?

Please read Elisabeth Kubler Ross' Five Stages of Grief (pp. 37-53, 76-86, 105-117, 132).

We can then link to the new pdf in the activity.

Most definitely! It wasn't my original choice to include the page numbers so that would be great!

Hi @emilyverse ! The library can scan a copy, but they have an older edition, 1997, not the 2002 edition. Would this work?

If not, that's not a problem. They can put in an interlibrary loan request for the 2002 edition, which might take a little time to arrive at the library. Or do you have a copy of the book you could bring to campus? (Sorry, I'm not sure if you're in Langley!)

Please let me know what option works for you.

Hi again @emilyverse ! Please see the message below from our librarian, Qinqin: We actually have further discovered that this is a compilation volume of three originally separate books. In your original citation, there are three separate book titles. I wonder if you could clarify with the prof to see which specific title(s) the required pages are from. If the pages are all from On Death and Dying, we might be able to purchase an ebook version for that. There is no ebook versions to purchase for the two titles. Also, do you know when the course is being run? Ie. when this information is needed.

I do have the 2002 version of this book. I can try and scan them again to see if I can get a clearer image?

I do live in Kelowna, but I will be guest lecturing in the Fosmark building on Thursday and can bring the physical copy as well.
