My response:

You can do the backup anywhere (if access rights allow), and I'm about to release an update where you can backup (export/import) to/from the cloud (Drive, Dropbox, ...) as well.

But I have a feeling you're asking to move the main database (i.e. current items and images) to a separate location. That's not possible currently, nor I had it planned. SD cards behave really weirdly post-KitKat.

What is the number beside the "Backup" item in the left-side menu? There was a bug (will be fixed as well) where some images were not properly deleted and taking up space even after the item doesn't exist. > You can test if you're affected by exporting a backup and seeing if its size is megabytes off from the value shown next to "Backup".

If the data file can be a single one and allow user to choose the location, then it's easier to saved it to cloud drive like google drive or dropbox to save it to share with family members. It also has lots of potentials. For example, a desktop version for Windows/Linux/macOS could be able to read the data from cloud drive. -- https://github.com/TWiStErRob/net.twisterrob.inventory/issues/342#issue-1929163929
