We could add the footprint for a micro-USB connector, which would allow the board to be turned into a standard USB battery charger too.

USB-C would be a more futureproof option, but would also require a couple of extra resistors...

Given that USB isn't a key requirement, I've gone with the simpler option of just adding a micro-USB connector.
