[Feature Request]: A place to support this project with donations? #468

Description

Wanted to open this just because I see some real promise in this software and want to support it financially as I can. Good software deserves to get paid for. And I saw no issues/feature requests asking for a place to make donations or regular backing.

Solution

I would think some kind of donation link put in the readme or something like that would work.

Alternatives

I honestly don't know if you have a website for this or not but officiating it like this may help too.

I don't know if CyanVoxel would be comfortable setting it up so that the project can be sponsored or provided donations to fund costs of very helpful proprietary software or future server costs, etc.

If there is enough demand for it and CyanVoxel wants to do so, the best way is outlined below:

We could use GitHub Sponsors by joining the waitlist for Git-hub Sponsors (for organisations) and keep all the spending transparent by signing up for Open Source Collective

Instructions to waitlist for GitHub sponsors as an organisation are here and instructions to receive the payouts via a fiscal host (eg. Open Source Collective) are here (Which must be done whilst signing up for the GitHub Sponsors waitlist)

None of these are really realistic for the size of the project at the moment, but if CyanVoxel wants to give the project a massive kick forward it could be helpful setting it up in the near-future!

I don't have the money to support it right now, but I think a little financial help could go a long way for the project, and it would be great if the project is going to be long-term.

I would also love to support this project financially, although I imagine a reason to not take donations could be as to not take all the credit. CyanVoxel has had help after releasing the project as open source. So maybe splitting donations would be too complicated at this point? Not exactly sure. Either way, I hope there's options to support the developers of the software more than just bug fix/feature/pull requests in the future.

The biggest support you can give CyanVoxel at the moment is probably just subscribing to his channel, watching his videos, and just sharing the software with other people.

If you really want to support CyanVoxel:

OR

You can find his twitch channel here.

Alternatively, if you want to just make a small contribution and not just to CyanVoxel, you could boost the discord server, which would mean that some day we can get a fancy vanity invite link or custom server banner.
