Wait spinner appears and will not go away

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Open the last unread item in the last unread feeds -- might need to have
other feeds after that with no unread items
2. Click the right key (next item)

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Used to just say "no more unread items" in bottom status bar.  Now, shows
the 4-color spinner wheel in the middle of the screen.  This persists even
if you close the item and go back to the feed view or even feed list.  Only
way to get rid of it is to close the app.

I did a fix in r191 and r193 and it seems to be fixed... please, try this out...
