authentication error with gmail

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Create a feed for gmail account
(http://gmail.google.com/gmail/feed/atom), but uncheck "check feed online"
(as daveatlonecrowdot...@gmail.com pointed out), then in site manager go to
authentication tab and enter name/pw 

2. Make sure you have wi-fi or other connection enabled

3. Attempt to update the channel

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

"<feed name>: Authentication error"

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

1.4.1. (Didn't have a problem before when used 1.3.4).

Please provide any additional information below.

Using WM5 on an HTC-Wizard (Cingular 8125)

I also added a dialog that asks for auth info when adding a feed in the site 
manager.
The user has a possibility to store the auth info. So, users do not have to go 
the
offline way.
