I would like to contribute to this mod, fix issues and maybe update it to newer versions, but it seems that Tango keeps the code closed?

It's a great concept, but the whole thing was proof of concept, not production grade. I'd love to contribute to it as well. Here's hoping he might open source it, but no time soon.
