A suggestion to add a little more personality to the working day. Shanties / Work songs started by the bard, and hummed by the villagers. This extra ditty would focus the mind of the worker, making them a little faster for a little while.
When the bard is playing throughout the village, he first does a scan of villagers in his vicinity to see how many are working. If 5 villagers are working (chopping trees, farming, mining etc) he'll play two verses of a short shanty (potentially profession specific). Villagers will join in by humming, and continue to hum after the bard has stopped. After each verse, each villager has a chance to stop humming, so the shanty will slowly die down and stop with time.
Whilst humming the shanty, Villagers will get a small skill boost similar (but not as grand) to the cleric's blessing. When a villager drops out of the shanty, their skill is returned to normal. The level of the skill boost could level with the skill of the bard.
What shall we do with a drunken sailor.....
