This seems like a reasonable and nuanced discussion about privacy (not being sarcastic): https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/issues/2977
The code is open source, and the politics aren't injected into it, so, who cares what they do with their free time? It's not relevant, don't use their instance if you don't like Lemmy, but this is akin to hating email based on what the creator of email believes.
The privacy concern is literally just that the comments aren't deleted when you delete them, they are deleted however if you delete your account and it seems like they're fixing this problem soon anyway.
According to various sources, the Lemmy team is pro Putin and CCP, and has very dubious privacy, e.g. this mastodon thread.
You are encouraging people to sign up to Lemmy in your footer. Perhaps recommending kbin would be better, it has more users anyway.
