Here's the relevant section of my emacs.d/init.el:

(require 'nyan-mode)
(setq nyan-wavy-tail t)
(setq nyan-bar-length 20)
(setq nyan-animate-nyancat t)
(nyan-mode)

The bar is 20 units, but it's not wavy or animated. :(

(I love nyan-mode!)

It's nyan-wavy-trail not nyan-wavy-tail! Two years later I checked my spelling.
