At this point wondering if we should hold off for Prefigure to reach maturity and integration into PreTeXt and refactor everything to use that.
I think conversions to Sage are a step forward (I'd love to see a Sage graphics -> Prefigure conversion someday), but agree we don't need to put a lot of effort to wholesale convert everything to Sage versus other work that could be done.
Is there value in recreating the .png image files in .tex? At some point I remember discussing this as a possibility during the Summer Edit-a-Thon.
That's a strict improvement IMO, though I'd prefer Sage as that has a better potential for conversion into something like PreFigure down the road.
I'd push for converting things to Sage at the moment, and then later Prefigure, for consistency. Our in-development book is trying to do everything in Sage, so for consistency I think we should move that way if we are redoing things.
There are currently a number of static images in the books. However, as pointed out in TeamBasedInquiryLearning/calculus#35, sometimes a graph may need to be changed (though that particular issue was resolved by changing the task). If these graphs are generated by our code upon compilation, we can easily change them as needed.
