Holy water rework suggestion #1063

What?

As my suggestion about holy water rework was liked by decent amount of people, I decided to write this suggestion with additions here so it would be easier to see the whole idea and comment it So the holy water needs a rework. Here are ideas of how it could be more interesting:

  1. Instead of insta-damage and some side effects, the first version of holy water can give burning effect that is weaker than the regular one but lasts longer. The duration of this effect would grow with every tier (This idea would work good with the Ioda's idea about weaker effects for vampires as poison potion wouldn't work so good);
  2. Version of holy water that give thirst so the thirst potion could be replaced with this;
  3. Version of holy water that negates debuffs but lower the tier of the buffs by 1 level;
  4. Version of holy water that negates vampire abilities like invisibility, disguise, defence ability and e.t.c (would require special skill from the next point);
  5. To balance it and fill the gap between skills in the middle skill tree there should be skill that let you craft strongest versions of holy water for the expensive price.

    There are ideas about the process of craft:

  1. There could exist crossbow bolts that enhanced with the holy water except the version that negates vampire abilities. You could unlock recipe of these bolts with skill that unlocks recipe of the strongest holy water versions;
  2. Hunter crossbows can have a wheel GUI that let you choose what crossbow bolt type you want to use now. The bolt type will return to the regular once you'll run out of bolt type that you are using.

Mod experience

As obsidian armour will be removed soon, hunters wouldn't rely so much on their durability so at least there should be more variability for fighting in PVP. I guess crucifix wouldn't be used in PVP so much because any player could just teleport or switch to the ranged weapon. Besides that the middle skill tree doesn't seem to be used by many players because the special holy water can't be crafted and it doesn't worth to buy the middle skill tree skills for just cheaper harm potion that do a little amount of damage and give a nausea effect at the second tier (this effect can become useless after the player will set one option in the settings). This rework would give a reason to buy the middle skill tree skills instead of blood potion skills. Although I'm afraid it would be not so useful in PVP against non-vampire players so it does need further elaboration in this way.

Contributions

I don't have any additional resources but if this idea will be accepted then I'm ready to make models and textures.

Thank you for the suggestion. I agree, that holy water needs some improvements

  1. and 5. sounds good. 4 is already the case. Having different variants (in addition to the existing three tiers would be a bit confusing I think. Can you elaborate 3. ?

The crafting process is already being reworked with #1009.

Holy water arrow sounds cool.

Having arrow selection screen would be pretty cool, but probably low priority. ordering the arrows in the inventory should work for now

I think that holy water doesn't need tiers if there will be different variations. Instead of that there can be just effect tiers like with the potions so it wouldn't be confusing. Like I said, I just think that variability would make holy water more interesting and decent to invest in instead of blood potions

By point 3 I mean holy water that acts like milk bucket but doesn't remove positive effects and instead of that at least weaken them. This potion would be easier to use than the milk bucket and can be used on multiple people.

I wanted to give more ideas for the crafting process in case if there will be variability of holy water, because I don't know how the reworked crafting process would look and even so I think that it wouldn't give an opportunity to make different variants

I suggested arrow selection as well because it would make hunter gameplay more comfortable and would be a mechanic that give sligthly more depth to them but I understand why it is low priority

Alright, I think I understand this better now. Sounds good overall, will consider implementing this eventually
