Add Application on AppGallery #3235

Open ghost opened 4 years ago

ghost commented 4 years ago

Add this application on AppGallery (and Galaxy Store). Here's why:

  1. Huawei new phones will stop getting Google apps with it, this include Youtube, and this application will be very useful on the AppGallery from playing Youtube videos without having an account.
  2. Posting on AppGallery would be much safer and faster, Huawei will also pay 100% of the revenue on AppGallery the app you uploaded for the first to years, read that here: https://www.gsmarena.com/huaweis_appgallery_will_pay_developers_up_to_100_of_revenue_for_the_first_two_years-news-41869.php

So, I have a Huawei phone, i dont need to download F-Droid, which by the way is very buggy, to just download this app whereas you could directly upload it on AppGallery and we would download it from there. And, there's VidMate on Appgallery, that app lets you download videos from Youtube, so im 99% sure this app will be accepted too.

For the developer of NewPipe application, this is the site that you can upload the app to AppGallery: https://developer.huawei.com/consumer/en/appgallery Just click 'Upload Your App' and follow the other steps.

Please, ill be waiting for the app on AppGallery.

Thank you for reading, Serj

Yeah i checked them, they aren't that bad, i mean this app wont have viruses right? And, they dont say anything about against mp3/mp4 downloads which i can see because there are many on AppGallery. I don't think it should be a problem uploading this app there.

Newpipe doesn't fit the fifth criteria, since you can choose a lot of languages that are not completely translated yet.

Also the second one could make problems, since you can select Hongkong and Macau as the content country.

Well, there are many apps on the AppGallery that made content country and etc, even popular ones, i dont see the problem... It's just a safer way that downloading from F-Droid, i mean the app sucks! Literally sucks. AppGallery would be much better and easier, not for global users, only Huawei users. And on AppGallery, i even saw an app named different by having the exact same screenshots from this app, if you want ill post it.

Screenshot_20200316_130525_com huawei appmarket This screenshot is from AppGallery, this is an app having the same exact screenshots of this app. But i cant trust this, and 12,000 people downloaded it already, they need to add it officially.

F-Droid is probably the safest store that exists. There all apps are free and open source and checked for bad code and functionality. And what do you mean by "the app sucks"?

  1. Downloads take 50 hours on stable connection.
  2. App crashes

I mean, even if it is the 'safest' which i dont think it's the 'safeST' it may be safe, not everyone need to download it. Try to put it please!

@SerjS2 take a look at Aurora Droid, it is an F-Droid client that works better

Look, I don't have problems with that app, I'm suggesting to add this app on AppGallery. And, i even shared a screenshot of someone using this app with another app name. People will be tricked! I don't have problems with F-Droid, I'm suggesting this because not everyone know F-Droid, and maybe it doesn't even work without GMS! That's a problem too.

Hi! I've been thinking of the potential of NewPipe joining the Huawei App Gallery, since in a way, this means tacit support for Huawei's app store/platform.

TeamNewPipe/NewPipeExtractor/pull/325#issuecomment-626801193 denied support for BitChute on the basis of far-right ideological messaging violating the rights of minority individuals, which I believe can also be applied to Huawei due to its theft of trade secrets and intellectual property. I'm concerned since like BC, Huawei AppGallery isn't known in the mainstream for many countries, and so we might end up promoting it to people who haven't heard of AppGallery if we advertise that this can be downloaded on it.

NewPipe would be fine on AppGallery, there's Snaptube and Vidmate! They both do the same thing as NewPipe but with less features, and security in these 2 apps aren't 100%. It would be nice if the developer added it on AppGallery, but sadly they don't care much. Not many people know FDroid, so if u add it on AppGallery it may go very popular, you can even advertise it or like put banners and etc on AppGallery which would attract members for using it.

And, I'm not saying to add it on AppGallery to get more poeple, it doesnt matter if they havent heard of AppGallery. Everyone has heard of it if the person uses a Huawei device, especially that is without GMS, which means no playstore and no google apps. This would be very useful, sadly again the developer doesnt want to put it lol, and if he/she wants to u should put the version that is without GMS or code it again with HMS support.

I'm asking to add this because it would be useful, especially that there isnt Youtube on new and latest Huawei devices (so as all Google apps, no GMS).

We could say it can be downloaded from there and put a "this store is unsafe and unrespectful" underneath, but anyway this does not seem like a reason not to put it on AppGallery: it is already a known app store and I don't think it would make a difference if we say NewPipe can be downloaded from there. Anyway, having more people use a FOSS youtube player instead of a random proprietary one is, imo, a good tradeoff.

No one would know NewPipe out of no where, if you put it on AppGallery it would be easier for people to find, and it would be very useful since no GMS on new Huawei phones. Didn't you read what I said, unbelievable.

ghost commented 4 years ago

Developer doesn't care no matter what, not worth continuing this topic. Shame on him/her.

Stypox commented 4 years ago

I care about this, and would like this to be done some day. But we still haven't discussed this thoroughly internally, so for now it's on hold

Stypox commented 4 years ago

Also, we would probably need someone who can maintain the app for AppGallery (some things should be changed in code, I think, to comply with their guidelines), push updates for it, and in general manage it. So if someone offers volounteer, I don't think it would be a bad idea to push the app to AppGallery, but until then this will stay on hold unfortunately

IMO, NewPipe is already on questionable legal ground. Putting ads in it will just make Google more irate and bump "get rid of NewPipe" up on their agenda, because it's turned from "helps people to pirate YouTube" to "actively profits from helping people to pirate YouTube".
