Hi @Plugdemholes-Imeanpatchdembugs, Thanks for using NewPipe Fixing this issue might not be of great help because that will only be helpful while using NewPipe, so I suggest you have a look at this Screen Dimmer. It's less than 25kb and it works!
Might not have been clear from my statement, but my issue is not the brightness in general, rather the amount of text in pure white at the font size in use and the amount of thumbnail titles that are being shown simultaniously in the main screen ,while search results are being shown or the "subscription list" gets updated. It's more about the very bright light from very small spaces, if you catch what I mean. It's the contrast of the white font on the black background. I could also just go all the way down with the backlighting to 0%, but that crushes the contrast to the extreme.
The only times I really have issues with it late at night is, when there are many thumbnails on the screen. Therefore my suggestion with the different main video title color.

Describe the feature you want
I've noticed that NewPipe uses the kind DarkMode that came with Android 10, I think? At least when it comes to text. (currently I'm only having one device that has Android 10, so that could just be my impression from personal experience) The hierarchy of a white or very near white headline text and light-greyed subtext.
I remembered a LineageOS build I used with a DarkMode "skin" about four years back, whose color scheme that would fit NewPipe very well, since in DarkMode, NewPipe already uses pure black as background color.
I would suggest a "slightly reddish-tinted, light-to middle brown" for the video title color as well as for the text-UI of the NewPipe main menu for DarkMode.
Is your feature request related to a problem?
On my current tablet device, I've made the experience, that the current big screen devices, have such high luminosity screens that for general Android UI navigation, that I set my screen brightness, never higher than 5%-8% of maximum brightness, when I'm indoors. When I'm using the device at night, I'm trying to go way down, sadly, the system UI only has a slide-bar for screen brightness. And even though the slide-bar has roughly half of the screen available to it, the precision isn't really high enough that I can zero in, on the sub 3% brightness. So at night, the white video titles and main-menu text-UI are garishly bright at a raster of 5x2 thumbnails that are being shown on the 1280x800 pixel screen of my device.
How will you/everyone benefit from this feature?
From my personal experience with the UI text color for a DarkMode in LineageOS back then, it was till today, the best text color for a DarkMode I can remember. The light/middle brown made it stand out and the light warm, reddish tint made it very relaxing for the eyes.
Hang in there and stay healthy!
