There's no way to tell if a video is a short video or not, so it's impractical. I could see hiding videos < 1min as an alternative solution.
yeah that can work. make sure to hide <= 60 sec videos
But there are channels dedicated totally for shorts. So, What about them ?

This seems a Viable Option.
I stumbled upon this issue and #1321 as it started to annoy me because somehow many of my subscriptions started using shorts.
So for anyone using ublock origin, you can use this custom filtering rule as a "dirty" solution for the frontend. It removes the div in which a "shorts" label is located.
DOMAIN## body > div>div>div>div>div:has(>a>div>span:has-text(Shorts)):remove()

They all have the red "shorts" label.

Things have changed, now shorts are identifiable and a label is displayed on them
There is even a filter on the subscription page.
So I guess an option on the settings page to globally disable them is now possible?
there should be an option to enable the filter automatically
I would really love a way to disable shorts as well, I noticed piped-material has the option, but piped does not. I really prefer the look and feel of piped, but shorts are a plague. Please can you find a way to make them disappear from my feed and searches? Thank you Team Piped, I really appreciate you!
give an option to disable YouTube Shorts from getting in feed or anywhere else.
