How to install on Ubuntu 18.04 / How to get the app listed in the applications? #462

Hello there.

Firstly thanks for the app. Seems very nice.

I have no idea if i did everything right. I could not find any proper way to install the app besides the note on the website about the config permissions. I've also looked through the Ubuntu related issues (FA #296) where people saying stuff like

I've tried to install the app twice now, it goes through the process fine

Which lets me assume that there must be some kind of installer.

Here is what I've done so far / what I experienced:

  1. I downloaded the TeamSQL...AppImage
  2. I could not start it, so I made it executable (by chmod +x)
  3. I double clicked the TeamSQL...AppImage and it started, asked me some stuff and ran as it would be installed already
  4. It is not possible to access the app like all the other applications (through "Show Applications" or by searching for it)
  5. It has no Icon - which bothers me a bit :)

Please let me know what I did wrong. Thanks.

I have the same issues on Ubuntu 18.10. The lack of an icon, inability to add the application to the launcher, and inability to create a favorite in the dock make for a very subpar experience on Ubuntu.

@Artem-Schander maybe you should try to install appimagelauncher, it did the job for me.

Only issue now I have is same as @jpayne 's, icon is broken when application is opened.

@markovic-nikola thanks for the hint. In the meantime I managed to get the same result as both of you somehow.

Do you have a TeamSQL file in ~.local/share/applications?

Apparently the icon is somehow missing from the pane. It is, however, displayed when searching for TeamSQL in the menu.

OS: Linux Mint 18.3 TeamSQL version: 4.0.392 image
