[ROOT] YouTube Vanced doesn't install #235

Please only report your issue here, if all points below are true

Phone Specifications:

Please describe the problem you are having in as much detail as possible: Vanced Manager either takes forever to install YouTube Vanced (version 15.43.32) or crashes (ANR).

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Install Vanced Manager 1.3.1
  2. Go to Root tab
  3. Grant Root permissions
  4. Tap Install
  5. Select either of versions (dark or black)
  6. Select any language or don't select any at all (only English)
  7. Tap Install
  8. Either wait for eternity (I even left it over night once to be sure, that it doesn't just take very long) or see Vanced Manager crash

Further details: It shows executing commands up to installing all language configs. If it doesn't crash immidiately it can install stock version of YouTube (without Vanced mod). Stock version works as normal (with ads and no traces of Vanced in it). Vanced Manager doesn't finish installation in that case (spinner continues to spin). If you close and reopen it, it says, that version 15.43.32 was installed and button says Reinstall this time. The "installed" version is just a stock YouTube app with no traces of Vanced. If I click Reinstall it again spins forever with no indication of progress or error (and YouTube Vanced is never installed).

Are you using SuperSU? Keep in mind only Magisk Root is supported,

I use Magisk. I dropped SuperSU to install Magisk specifically to install Vanced.

o my question was for @GamyGamer, i should've quoted him, my bad.

Oh another note, maybe you need to do a cleanup and then do a fresh install? It's worth a try. Do as this post from X1into from earlier in the thread.

Well in this case just remove /data/adb/Vanced, /data/adb/service.d/vanced.sh and /data/adb/post-fs-data.d/vanced.sh (do the same for music too if you have it)

Then reboot, and remove any remains of youtube from /data/app if it exists (they should be named com.google.android.youtube-(gibberish)) and proceed to reinstall it.

Everything but removing com.google.android.youtube folder is automatically done by manager when you press the uninstall button in root mode, so you don't really need to do much yourself, but yeah, it's worth trying a clean installation, I'd also suggest rebooting after removing yt folder before you install Vanced again

I have the same issue with Vanced Manager v2.4.0 on my Samsung Tab S2 with official Lineage OS 16.0 + Magisk. The root install stalls after all files are downloaded, but the progress bar is still shown. The cancel button and back buttons no longer work and the app must be forcefully closed.

I uninstalled VM performed the manual cleanup (above), but only the YouTube app folder had any contents. I then restarted and reinstalled VM. No change.

Please let me know how to provide logs since the in-app logs seem to be cleared when the app is opened.

@jimbt which magisk version? That sounds like magisk 21.3 behavior, which is broken. Update to 21.4 if that's the case.

jimbt commented 3 years ago

@Delphox I already have Magisk v21.4 installed.

I did forget to mention that I installed openGapps immediately after the original LOS install, so I'm not using microG.

Also, I tried installing to latest 15.x version after a failed/frozen 16.x install. It detected a newer version after downloading everything and aborted. Attempting a dark install after an initial black or vis versa caused the progress bar to act like multiple activities were trying to display their progress, but the end results were the same: freeze.
