Upload is related to updating, since Material catalog doesn't have a direct icon for updates, we use the upload button
I also noticed this today when I went to update the apps.
IMO download icon makes more sense as the full action is: download and install or get (aka download) the latest update.
I think the best way to figure out which icon to use is to check what some other software company does, one which has a good UX hopefully. :)
This is definitely an important change. The bar with the up arrow is used consistently across nearly all applications to mean "Upload". This makes it very confusing to users of the app who want to update the version, since they are not uploading anything.
The Update icon needs to be changed to a more suitable icon.
As far as I can tell, Material Icons does have an update icon.
If this can't be used, I'm sure there is an another icon available that would be more intuitive.
Suggestion:
Change the upload button into a download button
Why is this suggestion relevant?
Because it's confusing. I'm not uploading MicroG, I'm downloading it…
Further details:
Right now, there's a few buttons : Info, delete forever, open external and refresh/upload. While "refresh" is quite understandable (reinstalling), "upload" is just not related to the meaning of downloading/installing.
