TWRP 3.2.0.0 problem on Galaxy S4 fltexx, I9505 #1105

After installing TWRP 3.2.0 by TWRP 3.1.1 it does not boot into recovery. It freezes at Samsung Boot logo. Also if it was installed by odin. Booting into system is still working.

Others have the same problem, see comments at https://www.xda-developers.com/twrp-3-2-0-released-android-8-0-oreo-zips/

Same problem on Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 T530 (matisse). After flashing the TWRP file with the official TWRP manager and then boot into recovery, the tab stucks on the Samsung boot logo, trying to boot to recovery. But that never finish and I'm forced to start download mode and downgrade TWRP to 3.1.0 with Odin.

Same problem with Samsung S4 jfltexx.

+Huluti same

Can confirm similar issues on jfltecan as well, both versions exhibit similar problems, 3.1.0-0 works fine

DoggoOfSpeed commented 6 years ago

Huh... 3.2.1-0 did not fix it for me...

julianlam commented 6 years ago

Try 3.1.1-0?

DoggoOfSpeed commented 6 years ago

Yeh 3.1.1-0 works, but I am using an unofficial version of it to install Oreo

arjanvlek commented 6 years ago

Same issue here. Thought it was my device, as it sometimes decides to force close all apps / is unable to start any new apps. (that's likely a mainboard or ram issue, but I use my s4 only for testing some root / mod stuff).

3.2.1-0 also didn't fix this issue.

Solution: Revert back to 3.1.1-0 using Heimdall or Odin.

concatime commented 6 years ago

Same here. As I see, this precise version is no longer available. https://dl.twrp.me/jfltexx/

arjanvlek commented 6 years ago

Good to see it's removed. If not already done, Remove jfltexx from the CI build roster (until someone starts maintaining it), and then this issue can be closed.

However, the cause of the problem does not seem to have been resolved yet. The ticket can only be closed if there is an error-free update.

If anyone wants to try a fully functional 3.2.1-0, find my thread on XDA. This cannot be submitted for official support because the only way I could build a working 3.2.1-0 was the dirty way using LineageOS's jf-common repo, which has TWRP code integrated into it. Now the quest is on to create a dedicated TWRP repo using jf-common as a template, since that code is proven to work.

Since there's no maintainer at the moment, if I figure it out, I'll take on the role.

Any and all feedback is appreciated!

Many thanks ripee for your effort. The version 3.2.1-0 does work very well. Now I hope that your update will pass the TeamWin repo.

concatime commented 6 years ago

@ripee Which thread? This one? EDIT: Updating TWRP from itself (3.1.1 ~> 3.2.3) will cause a boot fail. But using Odin, everything works well.
