Make a better default font that supports basic symbols better, maybe add some common alphabet characters depending on how big the font gets.
Edit: Now that the issue is more clear; make a new font that has the following unicode blocks
Basic latin
Latin-1 supplement
Latin Extended-A
Currency Symbols
Box Drawing
Block Elements
