Panic Button for Veterans #41

Vets have a disproportionate rate of suicide and homicide. Here is an article. War Is Hell, and the Hell Rubs Off PTSD contributes to violence. Pretending it doesn’t is no way to support the troops. http://www.slate.com/articles/health_and_science/medical_examiner/2014/04/ptsd_and_violence_by_veterans_increased_murder_rates_related_to_war_experience.html

This app will gain wide acceptance by troops because of user friendly and helpful applications that make their lives genuinely easier. When all hell breaks lose at home, they have access to mediation, support, suicide prevention, legal assistance, It's a hip cool app vets can text, email, chat, file share, Supervisors can do their monthly counseling reports and sent via this app. Soldier can read, accept, and esign and resubmit. Vet can request leave, chat with members of squad, read unit message boards, etc.

The article opens a deeper conversation worth having.

The app looks like it would bring together a good array of resources for veterans. I retired some time ago so am unfamiliar with some of the active duty counseling processes now. Is there a monthly report due in some services, or are you suggesting to offer a way to counsel monthly if the supervisor sees a need?

Hello Jeff,

Not quite. In the military as you probably remember, squad leaders must provide monthly counseling statements to each of their subordinates, or if a situation occurs which requires the supervisor to counsel a subordinate on his or her actions.

Currently, it’s a physical piece of paper that has to be signed both by the supervisor, the subordinate. However, there are cases when the subordinate refuses to sign because he or she disagrees. There is another place for the supervisor to sign if the subordinate refuses to sign.

This form can be then shared via the platform, the subordinate downloads, esign and return. It is mandatory, must be done by all section leaders, and it is something that all supervisors and soldiers hate to do. Our platform turns the mundane into a simple task which requires little effort. This fact alone is enough to encourage adoption of the app by service memebers.
