When a boat docks to an island, it doesn't immediately stop, but it continues gliding for a little bit. When the angle is just "right", the boat floats out of range of the island, triggering the anti-tampering checks, that make sure that the boat is actually in range of an island to be allowed to dock. This effectively locks the player out of the rest of the match.
