Senior SRE, Security, Overview:

This Senior SRE, Security role is responsible for engaging with colleagues on SRE (Site Reliability Engineering) and security subject matters, and writing reliable software code and automation towards continuous compliance to navigate through reliability, security, compliance, privacy, regulatory, and information security matters. This position reports to the DevOps Manager, and works remotely and collaboratively with cross-functional colleagues in geographically distributed teams.

In this role, you will mentor colleagues in career lattices by exchanging knowledge and information and engage with colleagues and customers on SRE and security subject matters. You will be expected to write software code and automation for rules in compliance, privacy, regulations, security surrounding HIPAA, HITECH, SOC 2 Type 2 with HITRUST CSF Mapping, CCPA, GDPR, and 23 NYCRR Part 500.

The Senior SRE, Security will design, write, and deliver software to improve reliability, security, compliance, observability, availability, scalability, latency, efficiency, and effectiveness of production services. In this role you will also manage end-to-end availability and performance of production services and build automation to prevent problem recurrence. You will also be responsible to build automated responses for non-exceptional service conditions. You will also be expected to engage in and improve the whole lifecycle of services from inception and design, through deployment, operation and refinement.

In addition, you will be responsible for supporting services before they go live through activities such as system design consulting, developing software platforms and frameworks, capacity planning and launch reviews. You will also maintain services once they are live via observability, logging, request tracing, collecting metrics, measuring and monitoring availability, latency, rate limits and overall system health.

You will practice sustainable incident response and blameless postmortems. You will reduce organizational silos such as, share service ownership with developers by using the same tools and techniques across the stack, and vice versa, be accountable for mission-critical production systems, be consultative to development teams for non-production systems.

You will need to accept failure as normal, have a formula for balancing accidents and failures against new releases, implement gradual change, encourage moving quickly by reducing costs of failure, leverage tooling and automation, encourage “automating this year's job away” and minimizing manual systems work to focus on efforts that bring long-term value to the system. You will measure everything, believe that operations is a software problem, define clear and prescriptive ways for measuring reliability, security, compliance, observability, availability, uptime, outages, toil, etc.

You will define contextual, customer-focused SLOs, define sensible error budget policies, fine-tune SLOs and enforce error budget policies, create automated dashboards communicating error budgets, SLOs, SLIs, SLAs as appropriate to the audience.
