Talk about Telegram X #217

Open thermatk opened 6 years ago

Not to clutter other issues

Mikaela commented 6 years ago

What kind of talk?

The main two issues with Telegram X for me without counting missing source are:

thermatk commented 6 years ago

So we don't get endless #214 opened again. Telegram X has its own bugtracker and I don't care about it till we get a source

ShalokShalom commented 6 years ago

I really use Telegram X for one single reason:

The current Telegram here supports very low Emojicon windows on my Blackberry Passport, since it uses a virtual keyboard for the symbols only and hardware buttons for the letters.

Through this, the default bar is very small, nearly impossible to scroll with.

Increase the default minimal size in order to fix this.

Oh and the default theme in Telegram X is also super awesome :D

Mikaela commented 6 years ago

Both of the issues I mentioned in my previous comment are fixed and the reason why I moved to it on my phone that has Play Services was the ability to hide pinned message only for myself in group where I am an admin.

beerisgood commented 6 years ago

I dont see any reason why we should care about X. Still no sources, no fully encryption. So its useless

ShalokShalom commented 6 years ago

Take ideas from it? Like the above mentioned?

Peque commented 6 years ago

@beerisgood Telegram X might eventually replace the existing official app. If that is the case, classic Telegram will probably stop development and the necessity to adopt Telegram X as the base for Telegram FOSS might become a reality. Always, of course, assuming that Telegram X will be freed at some point.

This issue lets us subscribe to updates relating any possible Telegram X source publication as well as a possible adoption of Telegram X as the base for Telegram FOSS if that ever happens.

I think having this isue open is, therefore, not useless.

SebiderSushi commented 6 years ago

I thought we don't necessarily need Telegram X source code to continue Telegram FOSS development since TDLib itself already is open-source. Or are there any hurdles with that too?

Mikaela commented 5 years ago

Telegram X takes more space than the "normal" Telegram and it hasn't still gotten support for the new polls so I wonder if it has been killed.

SebiderSushi commented 5 years ago

According to a comment by a TDLib contributor there are reasons for the delay and implementing polls is in the works, or will be as soon as possible.

By "fully encryption" do you mean secret chats? Because these have come to Telegram X by now (July 2018).

Besides stuff like that, I am also a fan of the bigger sticker previews.

Younes-L commented 5 years ago

@Mikaela you can do that on Plus Messenger as well :) But it too depends on firebase, unless you use v4.8. if you absolutely want no play services + this feature you can

Serkan-devel commented 5 years ago

Is there any hint why Telegram X is kept proprietary?

AnXh3L0 commented 5 years ago

@Serkan-devel Telegram has said that they will open source Telegram X when it reaches stable (meaning version 1.0), that might take quite a while though.

ShalokShalom commented 5 years ago

Do they say why? Sounds pretty spooky. Enough that the server side is closed.

DI555 commented 4 years ago

am i right, TON(with all its features) will be supported only by TelegramX... and we'll going to skip to it anyways...;) ?

No, you're wrong.

Monirzadeh commented 4 years ago

is it possible to have telegram x on F-droid?

AnXh3L0 commented 4 years ago

@monirzadeh Telegram X is not open source yet, so no.

Monirzadeh commented 4 years ago

is there any plan to make Telegram X open source?

AnXh3L0 commented 4 years ago

@Monirzadeh no idea, that's up to Telegram and the developer.

Any possibility of Telegram X FOSS?
