How to get Telegram to work with Zlibrary #571

I found out that Zlibrary has a Telegram link, but I can't make it work. It's supposed to send a code via phone number or email. Talkatone says it's a premium message and I'd have to make some purchase from them to get it. They aren't sending to either Gmail or protonmail. I don't why this isn't working. I downloaded Telegram from fdroid and haven't got any use from it at all. Since I used the app, it should be the right version for the phone.

disclaimer : this issue is (or at least the wording makes it seem) way outside the scope of the telegram-foss project, but i'll do my best to decipher :

I found out that Zlibrary has a Telegram link

What is Zlibrary ? From a quick google search, zlibrary is an online ebook library. Does it have a telegram link ? Zlibrary has a Telegram Bot, and Zlibrary accounts can be linked to that bot. Further info on how to use that bot (and feedback from users) can be found on their blogpost https://booksc.org/blog/26

... but i can't make it work.

(2) At which step of the process is it not working for you ? Do you have a telegram account ? Are you able to send and receive messages using your telegram account ? You can think of telegram as an alternative to whatsapp. It uses a real phone number but messages sent/received via telegram are not SMS messages. In telegram, Bots can't send a first message to users, meaning you need to find the Zlibrary bot on telegram, and contact it. I tried to look for zlibrary's bot, but in their FAQ, the telegram bot link prompts me to login a zlibrary account, which i don't have. So i suppose you already know the zlibrary telegram bot (by its @username or t.me/link ). If not, send me a message on telegram, by joining the discussion group in the README

It's supposed to send a code via phone number or email. Talkatone says it's a premium message and I'd have to make some purchase from them to get it. They aren't sending to either Gmail or protonmail. I don't why this isn't working.

... from this i understand you're trying to receive some code from Zlibrary to proceed with downloading the desired ebook or article, and are trying / have tried multiple solutions that primarily revolve around not using your real phone number.
In telegram, account creation requires a real phone number (or as close as possible to a real one). The telegram app is useless without an account. Messages in telegram are encrypted, so even if you tie your telegram account to your real phone number, nobody will know who you are talking to. Once you create a telegram account, see (2)

this part further sounds like you haven't created a telegram account yet.

Since I used the app, it should be the right version for the phone.

okay, telegram works on any phone with android 4.1 or newer.

Zlibrary does indeed have a Telegram bot. I have tried and tried, fruitlessly, to gain access to it. Perhaps it does not consider a Talkatone number to be a "real" one, but I have at least been able to call a real number and leave a message. It won't send to protonmail, claiming that [sic] The address " is invalid and was removed. If I tell it to send to Gmail, there is what I take to be an error message generated as if I were actually trying to send it to Telegram, which I have done with no reply that I've noticed. It seems that Telegram will mysteriously not allow me to create/use an account. Does this have anything to do with its being the FOSS version? I have been advised that they will not help anyone who uses FOSS, though I don't know why not. I believe I downloaded it from the fdroid app. My main interest in using Telegram, or attempting to, is to connect to the Zlibrary bot. I have contacted them as well but they have not been able to help.
