9 months ago I know on official TDesktop it's baked in using the right clicks. Maybe long press a story and then press 'Hide Stories'? I'll try it once I update as well.
Edit: Yes, apparently long pressing a story header/profile image, you can press "hide stories", but it's only per profile sadly.
Some people have a few thousand contacts. Stories may be useless for many Telegram users, including me. It's really annoying in Android app as well. Keeping with the old version is impossible due to security reasons. I'd like to see a checkbox in the Settings which will turn off the Stories in the always visible parts of the UI: chat list, search, etc.
