DEV you should NOT delete this. Your FOSS telegram is not working well. Your intentions might be good, but it simply fails randomly and silently; this can create problems on the life of people. I say this because my parents who are elder could not communicate with me until recently when they being worried called me. It was weeks since this at least. My parents were worried. I still don't know if some people might be offended because I was not answering them because I never got the messages they sent. I don't use my phone regularly so I never noticed.

I'm not having doubts about your good will but the FOSS app is not reliable.

PROBLEM: The app disconnects randomly and I stop getting the messages (not only the notifications). Opening the app said "connecting" and after a while I got some messages. This is NOT the first time this happens and its not my wifi or celular network.

I would like to keep using a FOSS version but I feel its not reliable and I don't want to worry about conectivity issues.

UPDATE: Disregard and see comment

Works fine for me. Did disable battery optimizations as suggested?

Just a heads up.

I uninstalled the FOSS version and installed the "normal" version with SAME RESULTS. I'm using LineageOS with micro G (fork with microG)

This means that this FOSS version is not "failing" but its the "normal telegram" the one that is failing when you don't use it on google run, vanilla OS.

So I read up somewhere in reddit that Telegram X "just works". Being it official and made by the same company, I tried it and problem solved. It really "just works". Don't know the technical explanations but maybe it bypasses "something google".

It has a little different interface, and lacks the ability to copy and paste various selected messages, but it just works.

@masterofobzene

info from 2018: Telegram X for Android was born in the furnaces of a contest for Android developers that our founder launched two years ago. The winner then used the power of TDLib to create a stunning app with a special focus on smooth animations. X for Android is faster and more battery-efficient than the original app and features a sleek new design... more info here https://telegram.org/blog/telegram-x

So basically it is an experimental version of official Telegram where they try implementing new things
