Telegram crashes on new Apple Watch SE with Watch OS 8.1

Description

I just got a Apple Watch SE on Christmas and I installed telegram. When I start telegram it closes / crashes the app (it still seem to be running in the background as I can open the App menu on the Watch and close the app. Trying to open the app again moves it back to the background. I also tried to uninstall Telegram on the Watch and install it again. Still the same behavior.

Expected Behavior

Upon starting Telegram it should show my chats.

Actual Behavior

It just crashes / sets it to the background. Bringing it to the front sets it again to the background.

Device: Apple Watch SE

iOS version: 8.1

App version: 8.3.1

Additional Note

A friend of my brother seems to have the same problem with Telegram and his Apple Watch 7. I do not know his Watch OS version though and heard about the problem some weeks ago (before I even got my Apple Watch SE).

The same also happens with nicegram (seems to be based on the telegram API, which also needs to be opened on the phone like telegram). Nanogram (no iPhone App available, only Watch OS App available).

I will try to update my Apple Watch OS to 8.3 the coming days, as I need to charge it and because of christmas. I will try to reproduce the bug there also and report back.

Just updated to WatchOS 8.3 and the issue persists. And for information it also persists for nicegram).

Same issue. 8.3, Apple Watch S7. The app closed immediately after opening it.

Since it is also happening on nicegram I created a bug report there as well. Which seems to be linked here automatically (if I understand the message from above correctly).

found a solution by testing two separate telegram accounts (one was working, one was quitting on apple watch)

on the faulty account, i deleted (from the desktop telegram app) two conversations:

telegram updates channel
a random channel i joined a while back with telegram themes

also, i unarchived all conversations

then, it worked!

thanks @peterlupu! Similar approach worked for me.

What I did is I archived all the convesations and then unarchived one by one to find channel that crashes the app. IMO it might be because of too long channel names or channels with special symbols, I couldn't find out exactly.

Weird but it worked, thanks @peterlupu Deleting the telegram updates channel was enough in my case!

Thank you Peter,

that (deleting the Telegram Chat) solved the crash problem. I still do not see the messages (because they take ages to load), but that is a different problem. So I guess this issue can probably be closed.

I can also confirm removing the Telegram Updates channel fixed the issue 👍🏽

Same issue, Apple Watch 7, WatchOS 8.3, latest OS update on Apple Watch, and latest update on telegram. Tried removing it and adding it back, removed the Telegram chat... no luck, opens the app shows the chats but closes it immediately. Can't even use Siri to send a message via Telegram from the Apple watch.
