Description

To make OpenStreetMap more navigable and accurate in guidance, our mapping team is planning to start an editing project in Australia and New Zealand. Starting with January next year until June we will focus on road geometry, road name, oneways, signpost, turn restrictions, speed limit, lanes, turn lanes, hov lanes and toll roads in Auckland, Canberra, Perth and Melbourne. image

In this project we will map signposts in these cities and we will focus on adding missing information as well as improving the existing data in OSM.

How to map

We will follow the mapping scheme that is already used in the Australia, as it is described on this page: https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Australian_Tagging_Guidelines See also: • https://www.mapbox.com/mapping/mapping-for-navigation/adding-exit-and-destination-signs/http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Exit_Infohttp://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:destination

Will this include speed-limit signs? I've noticed that OpenStreetCam is very good at detecting stop signs and give way signs, but has never even tried to detect a speed-limit sign for me!

It's in the plan to have speed limit detection also for AU&NZ but I don't know when? We already have for US, so we'll have here too.
