i believe icons should generally not contain any words as that will bind them to a language and their goal is to convey meaning without text.

i do agree however that the floppy disk icon is a bit anachronistic and may be hard to understand for people who have never actually seen one. that said, searching google for save icons, the floppy disk still seems to have a very wide consensus.
